1. A tablet dosage form for the controlled delivery of an orally administrable beneficial drug to the gastrointestinal tract for executing a therapeutic program over a prolonged period of time, the tablet dosage form comprising:

  • (1) a tablet matrix hydrogel which absorbs and imbibes water, and swells and expands and increases in size or volume, and, in the expanded state, acts as a means for stomach retention for an extended period of time comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable starch fraft copolymer composition; and

    ,(2) a plurality of tiny pills housed throughout the tablet matrix, the tiny pills comprising;

    (a) a dosage amount of an orally administrable beneficial drug; and

    ,(b) a wall surrounding the drug, the wall comprising a cellulose composition selected from the group consisting of cellulose acylate, cellulose diacylate, cellulose triacylate and ethyl cellulose.
