1. A slurry for use in the initial coating of silicon steel prior to high temperature annealing which results is a decrease in tight magnesia consisting essentially of:
- (a) 0.1-20%, by weight, magnesium oxide; and
(b) the balance a non-aqueous solvent in which said magnesium oxide is insoluble wherein the solvent is selected from the group consisting of ethylene glycol mono butyl ether, ethylene glycol, and isopropyl alcohol.
