Abstract

A transparent conductive film is formed on a glass substrate covering substantially its entire surface area and this transparent conductive film is divided into a plurality of transparent conductive parts per each photoelectric converting region. The photoelectric converting region is of a nearly rectangular shape, and accordingly, in order to divide the transparent conductive film into respective transparent conductive film parts, a laser beam is irradiated along all longitudinal and lateral sides of the rectangle. Thereby, the transparent conductive film parts corresponding to the photoelectric converting regions are formed as island regions. Semiconductor film parts are formed on the transparent conductive film parts divided into island regions corresponding to respective photoelectric converting regions and subsequently aluminum film parts are formed on these semiconductor film parts. Transparent conductive film parts are electrically connected to aluminum film parts of adjacent photoelectric converting regions. Thus, a photovoltaic device is manufactured wherein a plurality of photoelectric converting regions are formed on the substrate and respective photoelectric converting regions are connected in a series fashion.

Claims

1. A photovoltaic apparatus, comprising

a substrate having an insulating surface with a plurality of spaced apart photoelectric converting regions,

a plurality of spaced apart first electrode film parts formed on said insulating surface, said film parts including a segmented transparent conductive film corresponding to said photoelectric converting regions, said plurality of first electrode film parts having been formed in a manner that a first electrode film is formed on substantially all of said insulating surface of said substrate, and portions of said first electrode film surrounding the entire periphery of each of said first electrode film parts having been removed at a distance inward of the periphery of said substrate so as to form grooves by irradiating an energy beam on said portions of said first electrode film substantially equivalent to the entire periphery of each of said photoelectric converting regions, said grooves separating said first electrode parts from portions of the first electrode film existing about the periphery of said substrate.

a semiconductor film formed on said first electrode film parts,

a plurality of second electrode film parts formed on said semiconductor film to correspond to each of said photoelectric converting regions, and

electrically connecting means for connecting said first electrode film parts and said second electrode film parts of adjacent photoelectric converting regions to each other.

2. A photovoltaic device in accordance with claim 1, wherein each of said first electrode film parts is provided in a substantially rectangular shape including sides in the longitudinal direction and sides in the lateral direction of the device.

A photovoltaic device in accordance with claim 2, wherein said semiconductor film is formed so that the end portion of said first electrode film part in the longitudinal direction of said substrate will be exposed, and said second electrode film is formed so as to be superposed on the exposed part of said first electrode film part.

4. A photovoltaic device in accordance with claim 1, wherein said semiconductor film includes a non-single crystalline semiconductor film.

In a photovoltaic apparatus of the type including a substrate having an insulating surface with a plurality of spaced apart photoelectric converting regions, a plurality of spaced apart first electrode films parts formed on said insulating surface, said film parts including a segmented transparent conductive film corresponding to said photoelectric converting regions, said plurality of first electrode film parts being formed from a first electrode film formed on substantially all of said insulating surface of said substrate, a semiconductor film formed on said first electrode film parts, and a plurality of second electrode film parts formed on said semiconductor film to correspond to each of said photoelectric converting regions, the improvement comprising said first electrode film having a portion thereof removed about and inwardly of substantially its entire periphery to form grooves so that said plurality of first electrode film parts is separated from the periphery of said substrate by said grooves and first electrode film remaining on the periphery outwardly of said grooves.
