1. An implantable helical coil microwave antenna for improving localization of interstitial hyperthermia comprisingan inner conductor,a dielectric insulator covering said inner conductor,an outer conductor covering only a proximal portion of said insulator to form a coaxial cable thereat and to leave a distal portion of said insulator uncovered, anda helical coil means surrounding the distal portion of said insulator and having a proximal end spaced axially from a distal end of said outer conductor to form a separation gap therebetween and a distal end of said coil means connected to a distal end of said inner conductor for confining heat to immediate areas surrounding said coil means and for inducing substantially identical thermal profiles at varying depths of insertion of said antenna into an organic subject when said antenna is energized with microwave energy.
