1. In a text to speech conversion system includingrule conversion means for converting a text to a phonemic representation thereof according to rules,dictionary means for storing dictionary entries for text not correctly convertible according to the rules and containing phonemic representations of the unconvertible text, andphonemic representation to speech conversion means for converting a phonemic representation into a voice signal,an interactive dictionary entry generator comprising:

  • input means for receiving a text and a make entry command; and

    entry making means for receiving the text from the input means and responding thereto by using the rule conversion means and the phonemic representation to speech conversion means to convert the text to a voice signal, and for receiving the make entry command and responding thereto by making a dictionary entry for the received text,whereby a user of the interactive dictionary entry generator may determine whether a dictionary entry for the received text is necessary and if it is, create the dictionary entry for later editing.
