4. A method for preparing enhanced 2-hydroxy-4-(methylthio)butanoic acid compositions which comprises reacting the conventional calcium salt of 2-hydroxy-4-(methylthio)butanoic acid with 2-hydroxy-4-(methylthio)butanoic acid so that the overall content of the mixture comprises greater than 2.2 and less than 10 moles of 2-hydroxy-4-(methylthio)butanoic acid equivalent (HMB.A) per mole of calcium to produce a composition comprising Ca(HMBA)4 salt complex.
- 5. A method for preparing enhanced 2-hydroxy-4-(methylthio)butanoic acid compositions which comprises reacting 2-hydroxy-4-(methylthio)butanoic acid with a calcium source selected from the group consisting of calcium oxide, calcium hydroxide and calcium carbonate so that the overall content of the mixture comprises greater than 2.2 and less than about 10 moles of 2-hydroxy-4-(methylthio)butanoic acid equivalent (HMBA) per mole of calcium to produce a composition comprising Ca(HMBA)4 salt complex.
