A laminated arrangement use for manufacturing a delivery system for delivering a beneficial agent to an animal, wherein the laminated arrangement comprises a first lamina consisting essentially of (1) a hydrogel that absorbs an aqueous fluid and exhibits a 2 to 50 fold increase in size, said hydrogel consisting essentially of (2) a dense material selected from the group consisting of iron, steel, iron magnesium alloy, mixture of cobalt and iron, copper oxide, iron oxide and a mixture of copper oxide and iron.

The device comprises (1) a housing defining an internal space, (2) an expandable composition comprising a dense member in the space, (3) a composition comprising a beneficial agent and a non-toxic heat responsive carrier in the space, and (4) a passageway in the housing for delivering the beneficial agent from the dispensing device.
