1. A process for preparing an aqueous dispersion, comprising the steps of (i) preparing a nonaqueous dispersion of polymer particles by polymerizing a radically polymerizable unsaturated monomer, (A) in an organic solvent, in which the polymer particles prepared from unsaturated monomer (A) are insoluble, in the presence of a dispersion stabilizer resin comprising a copolymer prepared by copolymerizing an alkoxysilane group-containing vinyl monomer represented by the formula ##STR11## wherein Z is a group ##STR12## R1 is a hydrogen atom or methyl group, R2 is a straight- or branched-chain alkylene group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R3 and R4 are the same or different and each represent a phenyl group, straight- or branched-chain alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms or straight- or branched-chain alkoxy group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, R5 is a straight- or branched-chain alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and n is an integer of 1 to 10, with a carboxyl group-containing unsaturated monomer and a polymerizable monomer (B);
