1. A reciprocating floor conveyor, comprising:
- a plurality of floor members each having a top;
a support and guide means for each floor member on which the floor member is supported for back and forth longitudinal travel;
drive means for moving the floor members in one direction for advancing a load, and for retracting the floor members in the opposite direction; and
a plug-together, slip joint connection between each floor member and the drive means, said connection being accomplished by a vertical plug-together movement of the floor member relative to the drive means and said connection comprising a first connector component that is integral with the floor member and a complementary second connector component that is integral with the drive means, said first and second connector components having engaging load transferring vertical abutting surface portions below the tops of the floor members positioned so that during movement of the drive means both in the load advancing direction and in the floor member returning direction a vertical surface portion of the first connector component contacts and pushes against a confronting vertical surface portion of the second connector component, said abutting surface portions have surface-to-surface contact area wider than their respective vertical depth,wherein said first and second connector components are positioned for vertical movement together so that each floor member can be moved downwardly onto its support and guide means with its connector component vertically aligned with the complementary connector component on the drive means, for moving its connector component into connecting engagement with the second connector component, and for positioning the floor member on its support and guide means.

Abstract
Plug-together joints are formed between floor members (10, 10'"'"') and drive beams (18, 18'"'"'). These connections may comprise a pin or insert (72) secured to the drive beam (18) and a box or socket (52, 54) secured to the floor member (10). Or, it may comprise a box or socket (176, 178) secured to the drive beam (18'"'"') and an insert or pin (188) secured to the floor member (10'"'"'). The plug-together connection is used in a reciprocating floor conveyor of a type having slide bearings (122) for the floor members (10, 19'"'"') which allow the floor members (10, 10'"'"') to be snapped into place from above. The floor may also include hold down members (90) which are secured to the guide beams (14) for the floor members (10, 10'"'"') and which are also constructed to allow the floor members (10, 10'"'"') to be snapped into place from above. The hold down members (90) include hold down wings (100, 102) which, when the floor member is in place, locate lower edges (104, 106) above inner edge portions (84, 82) of the floor member (10, 10'"'"'). This puts the hold down wings (100, 102) into positions to block upward movement of the floor members (10, 10'"'"').

7. A reciprocating floor conveyor, comprising:

a plurality of floor members each having a top; a support and guide means for each floor member on which the floor member is supported for back and forth longitudinal travel; drive means for moving the floor members in one direction for advancing a load, and for retracting the floor members in the opposite direction; and connector means for providing a plug-together connection between each floor member and the drive means, by a vertical plug-together movement of the floor member relative to the drive means, said connector means comprising a first connector component that is integral with the floor member and a complementary second connector component that is integral with the drive means, said first and second connector components having engaging load transferring vertical portions below the tops of the floor members positioned so that a vertical portion of the first connector components contacts and pushes against a vertical portion of the second connector component during movement of the drive means both in the load advancing direction and in the floor member returning direction, wherein said first and second connector components are positioned for vertical movement together so that each floor member can be moved downwardly onto its support and guide means with its connector component vertically aligned with the complementary connector component on the drive means, for moving its connector component into connecting engagement with the second connector component, and for positioning the floor member on its support and guide means, wherein each floor member is of channel form and has a pair of opposite sides projecting downwardly from the top, and a pair of bottom flanges projecting inwardly from the sides and defining a space between said flanges, and wherein the load transferring vertical portion of the first connector component is partially located vertically between the bottom flanges and the top panel, wherein the first connector component includes a vertically downwardly opening socket positioned between the bottom flanges of the floor member, and the load transferring vertical portion of the first connector component comprises wall portions of the socket and the second connector component is snuggly received within the socket, and wherein the first connector component comprises a pair of side parts having outer portions which are located within the floor member vertically between the bottom flanges and the top and inner portions, said side parts comprising laterally inwardly directed projections and recesses between the projections, and wherein the second component includes outwardly directed projections and recesses on its sides which interfit with the projections and recesses of the first connector component.

8. A reciprocating floor conveyor, comprising:

a plurality of floor slat members mounted adjacent to each other for longitudinal reciprocation, and divided into sets; a hydraulic drive assembly for moving the floor slat members in one direction, for advancing a load, and for retracting them in the opposite direction, comprising a separate reversible linear hydraulic motor for each set of floor slat members, each including fixed and movable portions; a plurality of transverse drive beams, one for each set of floor slat members; means connecting the movable portion of each reversible linear hydraulic motor to a related transverse drive beam; and means for connecting the transverse drive beams to the floor slat members comprising; a plurality of first connector components integral with each transverse drive beam, one for each floor member which is to be connected to the transverse drive beam; complementary second connector components integral with the floor slat members; and one of said first and second connector components being a vertically extending pin member having first load transferring vertical surface portions, and the other being a box member having a vertically opening cavity of a size and shape to snugly receive in it the pin member, and having second load transferring vertical surface portions, said first and second surface portions each having a width greater than its vertical height, and said connecting of the transverse drive beams to the floor slat members being accomplished by vertical movement of the floor slat member relative to the transverse drive beam. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12)

13. A reciprocating floor conveyor, comprising:

a plurality of floor members each having a top; a support and guide means for each floor member on which the floor member is supported for back and forth longitudinal travel; drive means for moving the floor members in one direction for advancing a load, and for retracting the floor members in the opposite direction; and connector means for providing a plug-together connection between each floor member and the drive means, by a vertical plug-together movement of the floor member relative to the drive means, said connector means comprising a first connector component that is integral with the floor member and a complementary second connector component that is integral with the drive means, said first and second connector components having engaging load transferring vertical portions below the tops of the floor members positioned so that a vertical portion of the first connector component contacts and pushes against a vertical portion of the second connector component during movement of the drive means both in the load advancing direction and in the floor member returning direction, wherein said first and second connector components are positioned for vertical movement together so that each floor member can be moved downwardly onto its support and guide means with its connector component vertically aligned with the complementary connector component on the drive means, for moving its connector component into connecting engagement with the second connector component, and for positioning the floor member on its support and guide means, wherein the first connector component is an insert member and the second connector component is a socket sized and shaped to receive the insert member upon a downward movement of the floor member, and wherein each floor member is of channel form and has a top, a pair of opposite sides projecting downwardly from the top, and a pair of bottom flanges projecting inwardly from the sides and defining a space between said flanges, and wherein the first connector component includes an outer side portion which is located vertically between a bottom flange and a portion of the top panel above said bottom flange, and an inner portion comprising laterally projecting projections spaced apart longitudinally of the floor member and laterally opening recesses between the projections including the said first load transferring wall portions, and wherein the second component comprises a member secured to the drive means which forms a socket which interfits with the projections and recesses of the first connector component and includes the said second load transferring wall portions. - View Dependent Claims (14)
