1. A process for disinfection of aqueous liquids or infected surfaces, comprising treating said aqueous liquids or infected surfaces with an effective disinfecting amount of (a) at least one ion selected from the group consisting of copper, silver and manganese and (b) at least one quaternary ammonium polymer or copolymer, said polymer or copolymer being a condensation product obtained by condensation of at least one difunctional tertiary amine of the formula I ##STR19## and at least one organic dihalide of the formula (IV)

  • space="preserve" listing-type="equation">X--B--X (IV)
in which formulae;

R, A, B and X have the following means;

R designates a lower alkyl radical or the radical --CH2 --CH2 --OH;

X designates a halogen atom, andA and B, which may be identical or different, with the proviso that the sum of the carbon atoms contained in A and B is greater than 8, and A and B have one of the five following formulae;

##STR20## in which one of the substituents --CH2 -- may be in an ortho, metha or para position, ##STR21## where D designates hydrogen or an alkyl radical containing less than four carbon atoms, and x and y are integers lower than 5, one of which may have a value equal to 0, while the sum x+y is at least equal to 1 and at most equal to 10, the radical (2) containing at most two double bonds, ##STR22## (4) --(CH2)n --O--(CH2)n --in which n is equal to 2 or 3, and ##STR23##
