1. A method of making a solar energy reflecting coated article comprising the steps of:

  • a. sputtering stainless steel in an oxidizing atmosphere onto a surface of a substrate to form a first transparent coating which exhibits color by absorption and interference effects; and

    b. sputtering over said film a highly reflective transparent metallic film.
