First Claim
1. A pyridopyrimidine nucleotide derivative expressed by formula (I):
- ##STR23## wherein X1 and Y1 each represent ##STR24## (wherein n is an integer of 0, 1, 2, or 3, provided that n is not 0 for both X1 and Y1);
wherein Z1 represents a hydrogen atom or ##STR25## (wherein m is an integer of 0, 1, 2, or
3);
wherein W1 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group, provided that Z1 is not ##STR26## when W1 represents a hydroxyl group; and
wherein R1 represents an amino group or halogen atom and R2 represents a single bond between the carbon atom at the 7-position and the nitrogen atom at the 8-position or R1 represents a carbonyl bond ##STR27## formed with the carbon atom at the 7-position and R2 represents a lower alkyl group.

Abstract
Pyridopyrimidine nucleotide derivatives expressed by formula (I), which are fluorescent and capable of forming base pairing with guanine or adenine, and oligo- or polynucleotide which have at least one of these derivatives in their molecules or at their molecular terminals: ##STR1## wherein X1 and X1 respectively represent ##STR2## (in which n indicates an integer of 0, 1, 2, or 3; however, in no case X1 and Y1 both indicate n=O); Z1 indicates a hydrogen atom or ##STR3## (in which n indicates an integer of 1, 2, or 3); W1 indicates a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group. As for R1 and R2, in case where R1 is an amino group or halogen, R2 indicates a single bond between the carbon atom at the 7-position and the nitrogen atom at the 8-position, and in case where R2 is a hydrogen atom or an lower alkyl group, R1 indicates a carbonyl bond ##STR4## formed with the carbon atom at the 7-position.
