Abstract
A lubricating oil composition is provided which comprises a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and a minor amount of an additive formed by contacting molybdenum hexacarboxyl with dixanthogens of the formula (ROCS2)2 wherein the R is an organo group having a sufficient number of carbon atoms to render the additive formed soluble in the oil. In general, R is the same or different alkyl, aralkyl, and alkoxylalkyl groups having from about 2 to about 20 carbon atoms and preferably R is an alkyl group having from about 4 to about 12 carbon atoms.
