1. Process comprising reacting at least one molecule of a liquid or solid epoxide compound having the formula:

  • ##STR10## wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each H or --(CH2)n CH3, and wherein n is 0 to 3, with the proviso that R1, R2, R3 and R4 are the same or different, with at least one other molecule of said epoxide compound in the presence of catalytic amount of at least one solid anion-bound metal oxide heterogeneous catalyst, wherein said anion in said anion-bound metal oxide heterogeneous catalyst is SO4, BF4, CO3, BO3, HPO4, SeO4, MoO4, B4 O7 or PF6, and the metal oxide is zirconium oxide, nickel oxide, aluminum oxide, tin oxide, magnesium oxide, iron oxide, titanium oxide, thorium oxide, hafnium oxide or rubidium oxide, said anion-bound metal oxide heterogeneous catalyst being an amorphous or primarily amorphous compound, and said molecules of said epoxide compound being the same epoxide compound or different epoxide compounds.
