1. Apparatus for bracing the knee joint of a wearer comprising:

  • a first support member securely fastened to the thigh of the wearer;

    a second member securely fastened to the calf of the wearer;

    a pair of first arms mounted on said first support member;

    a pair of second arms mounted on said second member;

    means connected between the free ends of said first arms and second arms for pivotally mounting said first arms to said second arms; and

    means on at least one of said supports member for spreading apart the support member longitudinally in relation to the arm members into a fixed position on the arm member (moveably connecting the support of said arms members for spreading apart said support members in relation to the respective arms), such that the load created by the weight of the wearer is transferred through said arms from the first support member to the second support member, and the knee joint is by-passed by a substantial portion of said load.
