An electrophoretic medium comprising an aqueous gel consisting essentially of the product formed by crosslinking polymerization in the presence of aqueous medium and in the absence of oxygen ofone or more monomers selected from compounds of the formula ##STR70## where R=alkyl, optionally mono-substituted with --OH or with --C(O)CH2 C(O)CH3 ;
- R1 =H or alkyl, optionally mono-substituted with--OH or with --C(O)CH2 C(O)CH3 ; and
one or more cross-linking agents selected from compounds of the formula ##STR71## where m=an integer of 1 or more;
R2 =methyl; and
X is selected from O and S.

Abstract
Electrophoretic media based on polymers with novel structures are disclosed. In one preferred embodiment, the polymers are formed by cross-linking polymerization of N,N-dimethylacrylamide with ethyleneglycol methacrylate. In another preferred embodiment, the polymers are formed by cross-linking polymerization of N,N-dimethylacrylamide and hydroxyethylmethacrylate with N,N-dimethylbisacrylamide.
