1. A system for monitoring the integrity of an article through a delivery system employing a plurality of delivery stages, comprising:

  • a station for preparing said article for entry into said system, said preparing station including codification means for placing a tracking code on said article and means for recording the weight of the article, a monitoring station, a communication link connecting said monitoring station to each of said delivery stages, means at each of said delivery stages for weighing an article, means for accessing each of said delivery stages to determine the presence of said article with said tracking code, means for comparing the weight as recorded at the preparing station to that determined at each of the delivery stages, and means for alerting the system in response to the comparison indicating that a tracked article has a different weight than that recorded at the preparing station.
