1. A method for the buffer storage of flat products arriving in a stream at an apparatus including a plurality of roll modules each having a product roll comprising the steps ofdirecting products to the plurality of roll modules (41-45), the stream of products having inlet parameters (I, o1, t1, p) wherein I is representative of the relative delivery position of the products, o1 is representative of the orientation of the products, t1 is the timing frequency of the products and p is the phase of the products;

  • concurrently removing a stream of products at least partly from a first one of the plurality of roll modules (41-45) through an outlet common to the roll modules, the removed products having outlet parameters (I=hd 2, o2, t2, p) wherein at least one of I2, o2 and t2 differs, respectively, from I, o1 and t1 ;

    selectively storing products by temporarily holding products on a second roll as a storage unit for introducing buffer storage delay for a selected group of products held on the roll, andremoving the storage unit (10) with products thereon through at least one additional outlet (31-35).
