1. A washing machine comprising:

  • an optical sensor including a light emitting element and a light receiving element for detecting a light permeability of a detergent solution and rinse water in a washer tank;

    a judging means for judging whether a detergent contained in the detergent solution is a liquid detergent or a powder detergent; and

    a control means for controlling a washing operation using the detergent solution and a rinsing operation using the rinse water,wherein said judging means judges whether the detergent is a liquid detergent or a powder detergent through comparison of a reference light permeability and the light permeability of the detergent solution during the washing operation, and wherein said control means controls the washing operation or rinsing operation in accordance with whether the detergent is judged liquid detergent or a powder detergent.
