1. A pharmaceutical composition in suppository form useful in reducing calcium levels in the blood and exhibiting enchanced bioavailability of the active ingredient comprising:

  • 1) a suppository base;

         2) as the active ingredient, a therapeutically effective amount of calcitonin in free base, pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt or complex form; and

         3) as an enhancer for the calcitonin, from 1% to 4% of taurocholic acid, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, based on the total weight of the composition.
