A method of preserving an infectious virion for subsequent reconstitution, the method comprising subjecting an aqueous system containing the infectious virion and trehalose to drying either in the frozen state or at ambient temperature so as to produce a preserved infectious virion, whereby upon rehydration said preserved infectious virion is a reconstituted infectious virion.
