Press fit pinless latching shroud
First Claim
1. A system for retaining at least one connector with at least one shroud, each connector containing a plurality of sockets, the sockets mating with a plurality of pins protruding from a surface, the connector having a length and a width, the pins part of a pinfield, the pinfield having a length and a width, each of said shrouds further comprising:
- a base member for securely mounting the shroud on a portion of the pinfield, the base member having a length and a width, the length of the base member shorter than the length of the pinfield and shorter than the length of the connector; and
means for removably attaching the connector to the shroud and holding the connector on the plurality of pins while the shroud is mounted to the pins.

Abstract
There is disclosed a press-fit pinless latching shroud. The latching shroud retains a connector to a pinfield with two flexible interlocking arms. The connector may be removed from the shroud by the user by disengaging the flexible arms from the connector. The latching shroud mounts to the pinfield by creating an interference fit between a portion of the pinfield and a series of matching holes in its base.

11. A system for retaining at least one connector with at least one shroud, each connector containing a plurality of sockets, the connector having a length and a width, the sockets mating with the plurality of regularly spaced pins protruding from a surface, the pins part of a pinfield, the pinfield having a length and a width said shroud comprising:
-
a base member containing a plurality of holes for receiving the pins covered by said base member, said base member having a length and a width, the length of the base member shorter than the length of the pinfield and shorter than the length of the connector, said holes having a tapering entry way with an opening larger than the pins leading to an exit way with a cross-section substantially similar to the cross section of the pins; at least two leg members attached to said base member operable for causing said base to be positioned away from the surface; and two brackets aligned across the width of said holes and attached to said base operable for receiving the connector in a temporarily interlocked manner. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16)

17. The method of attaching a connector with a first and second end to a pinfield, the pinfield having a length and a width, the method comprising the steps of:
-
mounting a shroud on a portion of the pinfield causing a portion of the pinfield covered by the shroud to protrude through the shroud thereby creating an itnerference fit between the portion of the pinfield and the shroud the shroud having a length and a width, the length of the shroud shorter than the length of the pinfield; mating the connector with part of the portion of the pinfield protruding through the shroud and part of the pinfield not protruding through the shroud; and engaging a locking mechanism on the shroud with the connector. - View Dependent Claims (18, 19, 20, 21, 22)
