1. Echo cancellation apparatus for removing echo in received information comprising:
- a sample delay line having a plurality of taps;
means for applying a transmit signal to said sample delay line, means for developing a cross correlation column vector between a given number of samples of said transmit signal over a given number of frames according to a tap position;
means for obtaining a new vector corresponding to the dot product function of an inverse transmit auto correlation matrix and said cross correlation column vector for each tap;
means for summing said new vector with said cross correlation column vector to obtain an echo estimate from the summed new vectors at each tap;
andmeans for subtracting said echo estimate from said received information to develop modified received information with reduced echo.

Abstract
Multirate wire line modem apparatus operable at either of two rates in either transmission or reception modes is provided according to the teachings of the instant invention. Full duplex operation and echo cancellation are utilized for both voice and data. Structurally an IOP processor acts as a system controller in controlling transmission and reception digital signal processors which provide the independent transmission and reception functions of the resulting multirate modem apparatus.

10. Echo cancellation apparatus for removing echo in received information, with said echo due to interference from a transmitted signal, comprising:
-
complex signal generator means for rotating baud impulses from the transmitter to provide a complex signal having different angles; delay line means adapted to receive said transmitted signal and having a plurality of taps for providing a delayed transmit signal at each tap; means responsive to said complex signal generator means for developing a vector history of information, which is the value of the vector in a previous frame, to be transmitted for each of said plurality of taps; and
for forming a tap adaptation value;means for storing a plurality of tap adaptation values; means for obtaining a series of dot products for a vector for tap information and a corresponding tap adaptation value to obtain a series of tap echo estimates; means for dividing received information into a plurality of vectors corresponding to tap values to minimize processing load; and means for summing said series of dot products and said vectors to obtain received information samples with said echo estimates removed. - View Dependent Claims (11)
