Abstract

A method is provided for preventing or reducing the risk of or treating Type II diabetes by administering a cholesterol lowering drug, such as pravastatin, alone or in combintion with an ACE inhibitor, such as captopril, zofenopril, ceranapril, fosinopril, enalapril or lisinopril.

Claims

1. A method for reducing the risk of Type II diabetes, which comprises administering to a mammalian specie in need of treatment a therapeutically effective amount of a combination of a cholesterol lowering drug which is mevastatin, lovastatin, pravastatin or velostatin, and an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor which is captopril, zofenopril, enalapril, ceranapril, fosinopril, lisinopril, fentiapril, pivopril, ramipril, cilazapril, BRL-36,378, MC-838, alacepril, quinapril, indolapril, delapril, spirapril, CGS14,824, CGS16,617, perindopril CI925, and WY-44221.

2. The method as defined in claim 1 wherein said angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor is captopril, zofenopril, enalapril, cernapril, fosinopril, lisinopril or fentiapril.

3. The method as defined in claim 1 wherein the cholesterol lowering drug is present in a weight ratio to said ACE inhibitor of the of within the range of from about 0.001:

4. The method as defined in claim 1 wherein the cholesterol lowering drug is pravastatin, lovastatin or velostatin.

5. The method as defined in claim 1 wherein said angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor is administered in single or divided doses of from about 0.1 to about 500 mg/one to four times daily.

6. The method as defined in claim 1 wherein the cholesterol lowering drug is pravastatin and the ACE inhibitor is captopril, or fosinopril.

A method for treating Type II diabetes, which comprises administering to a mammalian specie in need of treatment a therapeutically effective amount of pravastatin alone or in combination with an ACE inhibitor which is mevastatin, lovastatin, pravastatin or velostatin, and an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor which is captopril, zofenopril, enalapril, ceranapril, fosinopril, lisinopril, fentiapril, pivopril, ramiril, cilazapril, BRL-36,378, MC-838, alacepril, quinapril, indolapril, delapril, spirapril, CGS14,824, CGS16,617, perindopril CI925, and WY-44221.

8. The method as defined in claim 7 wherein the ACE inhibitor is captopril, enalapril, fosinopril, ramipril, quinapril, cilazapril or lisinopril.
