Blood purifying equipment particularly for the treatment of patients suffering from renal insufficiency, and a method of producing a reinfusion liquid for haemodiafiltration (HDF)
First Claim
1. Equipment for purifying blood by removal of harmful substances contained therein, including a first filter element though which the blood to be purified is passed to effect a purification step by convection with the formation of a quantity of ultrafiltrate which is removed from a blood flow and includes the said harmful substances, a second filter element operatively connected to said first titer element and through which the flow of blood to be purified is passed to effect a purification step by haemodialysis, and compensation means for introducing into the blood flow an infusion solution for compensating, at least partially, for the quantity of ultrafiltrate removed, wherein said compensation means includes a regenerator element which is operatively connected between the first filter element and the compensation means so as to act on the ultrafiltrate to remove said substances therefrom, whereby, after the removal of said substances, at least some of the ultrafiltrate can be used to make up the infusion solution.

Abstract
Blood to be purified is passed through a haemofiltration element and a haemodialysis element in cascade and the ultrafiltrate output from the haemofiltration element is passed through a filter such as an activated carbon filter, preferably with uncoated activated carbon. The ultrafiltrate thus purified can then be used as a reinfusion solution to be readministered to the patient.

- 16. A method of producing a quantity of an infusion for compensating, at least partially, for a quantity of ultrafiltrate obtained from a quantity of blood by a haemofiltration purification step, in which the ultrafiltrate transports harmful substances to the removed from the blood, wherein the method includes the step of subjecting the ultrafiltrate to regeneration to remove the substances therefrom so that, after the removal of the substances, at least some of the ultrafiltrate can be used to make up an infusion solution, and a haemodialysis purification step is effected on the blood after compensation by the infusion solution.
