Windshield wiper control apparatus
First Claim
1. A windshield wiper control apparatus, wherein a raindrop sensor for detecting raindrops is provided and a wiper blade is driven according to an accumulated value obtained by accumulatively calculating the output of said raindrop sensor exceeding a predetermined threshold value, comprising:
- means for comparing an output signal level of said raindrop sensor with a given value; and
correcting means for, when the output signal level of said raindrop sensor is smaller than said given value, correcting said level of the output signal of said raindrop sensor so as to make it larger, on the basis of the output of said comparing means.

Abstract
A windshield wiper control apparatus compensates for small-diameter raindrops such as a drizzle and raindrops splashed over by a preceding vehicle which may worsen the visibility of a driver even though the level of precipitation is not much and accumulatively calculates the amount of raindrops just after the wiping action of a wiper blade, thereby causing an optimized automatic wiping action to be realized. In addition, a windshield wiper control apparatus effects an automatic wiper operation without modifications and additional use of new operating switches by only adding a new control device between the conventional windshield apparatus not having any automatic wiper operation and the wiper blade driver.

5. A windshield wiper control apparatus comprising:
-
a driving means for reciprocating a wiper blade; a raindrop detecting means for detecting raindrops; means for detecting an abnormality of said raindrops detecting means; a control means for automatically controlling said driving means so as to effect an action status corresponding to a level of precipitation in response to an output of said raindrop detecting means; and a fail-safe means for, when said abnormality detecting means detects an abnormality of said raindrop detecting means while said control means performs the automatic control, intermittently driving said driving means with a predetermined intermittent interval irrespective of an output of said raindrop detecting means.
