A method of therapeutic intervention, comprising the steps of(1) preparing a voice record of a plurality of therapeutic intervention messages, said messages having a predetermined, fixed, semantic content for a given client, wherein said predetermined, fixed, semantic content includes material derived from interaction between said client and a therapist in the course of directing said client'"'"'s attention to targeted behavior and helping said client to refocus said client'"'"'s attention on certain thoughts or cognition in order to change said behavior over time;
- (2) giving said voice record to said client having a need or desire to heat at least some of said messages during times of absence from, or unavailability of, said therapist;
(3) and at predetermined times, prompting said client to listen to certain of said messages.

3. In a process of therapeutic intervention wherein said intervention is intended to change targeted behavior of a client of a therapist;
- wherein said client and said therapist vocally interact with each other for targeting said behavior, and for focusing said client'"'"'s attention on certain thoughts or cognitions which will aid said client to change said targeted behavior;
wherein said client'"'"'s said attention needs to be refocused periodically by such vocal interaction between said client and said therapist, whether or not said therapist is available; and wherein vocal interaction between said client and said therapist provides verbal material relating to said thoughts or cognitions; the improvement comprising the steps of (a) providing a message in the voice of said therapist, said message being chosen from said verbal material; (b) providing said client with a recording of said message, and with portable playback means for playing back said message; and (c) causing said message to be played back by said client, in the absence of said therapist, said client listening to said message, and reacting thereto, as if the therapist were present and client and therapist were interacting vocally, each being present to the other. - View Dependent Claims (4, 5)
