Multi-functional instruments and stretchable ligating and occluding devices
First Claim
1. An anatomic tubular structure ligature in the form of an integral one-piece clip comprisinga pair of opposed, cooperating, parallel legs;
- anda pair of bases joined by said legs, at least said bases being made of a material having sufficient elastic memory such that said legs are normally in a closed position wherein said legs are forced together in abutting contact, are separated in an open position by forcing said legs apart against the closing force of said bases allowing an anatomic tubular structure to be inserted between said legs and are automatically returned to said closed position upon releasing said legs to close the anatomic tubular structure.

Abstract
A multi-functional surgical device useful, for example, for male and female sterilization procedures. The device can be used for applying an elastic occluding ring onto an anatomical tubular structure, for cutting and cauterizing the cut ends of such a structure, for introducing a gas and/or anesthesia into the surgical field, for a biopsy procedure, for illuminating and viewing the surgical field, for applying a conventional clip to an anatomical tubular structure, and/or for applying a flexible and resilient ligature. An applicator device for applying a flexible and resilient ligature, plug or cap onto an anatomical tubular structure including tissue grasping forceps moved into and out of the distal end of a tubular member which has one or two anatomical tubular structure receiving slots. A flexible and resilient ligature, plug or cap having legs and a base having sufficient elastic memory to close the legs and occlude an anatomical tubular structure.

5. An anatomical tubular structure ligature in the form of an integral one-piece clip, comprising:
- opposed, cooperating clamping means including two pairs of legs for closing a predetermine portion of an anatomical tubular structure;
at least one integral base means from which said clamping means extend, at least said base means being made of a material having sufficient elastic memory such that said clamping means is normally in a closed position, is opened by forcing said clamping means apart against the closing force of said base means so that an anatomical tubular structure portion may be inserted thereinbetween and, upon releasing said clamping means, the clip returns substantially to its initial state thereby effectively closing the anatomical tubular structure portion, said clamping means having facing surfaces joined to said base means for being arranged in abutting contact in said closed position and complementary engaging means on said clamping means for locking said clamping means to the anatomical tubular structure in said closed position. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7)

8. An anatomical tubular strucure ligature in the form of an integral one-piece clip, comprising:
- opposed, cooperating clamping means for closing a predetermined portion of an anatomical tubular structure, said clamping means including a pair of parallel legs;
first and second bases joined together by said clamping means, each of said bases being in the form of a quadrilateral when forced open and being made of a material having sufficient elastic memory such that said clamping means is normally in a closed position, is open by forcing said clamping means apart against the closing force of said bases so that an anatomical tubular structure portion may be inserted thereinbetween and, upon releasing said clamping means, the clip returns substantially to its initial state thereby effectively closing the anatomical tubular structure portion, said parallel legs of said clamping means having facing surfaces joined to said bases for being arranged in abutting contact in said closed position and complementary engaging means on said parallel legs for locking said clamping means to the anatomical tubular structure in said closed position. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11)
