1. An automatic turn coordination trim control system for a helicopter of the type which receives from a plurality of sensors, signals indicative of:
- bank angle, lateral acceleration, and lateral ground speed, and outputs a coordinating yaw command signal to the tail rotor of the helicopter to automatically place the helicopter into a coordinated turn about a variable pilot selectable attitude, the automatic turn coordination system comprising;
means for supplying a first signal and a second signal both having an active and inactive state, where the active states are mutually exclusive;
first synchronizing means responsive to said first and second signals, for storing a bank angle datum value which is equal to the present value of the bank angle signal upon a transition of said first signal to its inactive state, and while said first signal is inactive for providing a normalized banked angle signal which in indicative of the difference between the present value of the bank angle signal and said bank angle datum value, and for resetting said bank angle datum value to a predetermined datum when said second signal is active such that the aircraft is automatically brought back to a predetermined bank angle;
turn coordination means responsive to said normalized bank angle signal value, for computing the coordinating yaw command signal value indicative of the yaw required for the aircraft to fly a coordinated turn about the variable pilot selectable attitude; and
means for outputting said coordinating yaw command signal to the helicopter tail rotor.

Abstract
A helicopter flight control system includes an automatic turn coordination system which provides a coordinating yaw command signal to the tail rotor of the helicopter. The system stores on command a trim attitude (e.g., signals indicative of bank angle, lateral ground speed, and lateral acceleration) about which automatic turn coordination is provided, thus providing the pilot with automatic turn coordination about attitudes other than wings level.

- bank angle, lateral acceleration, and lateral ground speed, and outputs a coordinating yaw command signal to the tail rotor of the helicopter to automatically place the helicopter into a coordinated turn about a variable pilot selectable attitude, the automatic turn coordination system comprising;

- bank angle, lateral acceleration, and lateral ground speed, and outputs a coordinating yaw command signal to the tail rotor of the helicopter to automatically place the helicopter into a coordinated turn bout a variable pilot selectable attitude, the automatic turn coordination system comprising;
switch means having three or more positions, for providing a first signal, a second signal, and a third signal, each of said first, second or third signals is mutually exclusive, and are indicative of which of said three of more positions said switch means is positioned in; first means, having memory for storing the bank angle signal value upon a transition of said first signal to active, for computing a first difference value between the stored value and sensed value of the bank angle signal while said first signal is active, for fading the stored value towards a predetermined bank angle datum value during successive time intervals over a several second period while said third signal is active, for disengaging automatic turn coordination when said second signal is active, and for providing a synchronized bank angle signal value which is;
(a) is equal to a value indicative of said first difference value when said first signal is active, and (b) is indicative of the difference between the fading stored value and the present input when said third signal is active;coordination means, responsive said synchronized bank angle signal value, for calculating the coordinating yaw command signal value; and means for outputting the coordinating yaw command signal value to the tail rotor. - View Dependent Claims (5, 6)
