1. A method of operating a gas turbine engine having a centrifugal compressor which is driven by a high-pressure turbine, and wherein sad centrifugal compressor is the only compressor of said engine, comprising the steps of:

  • positioning a variable inlet guide vane at an inlet air passage of said centrifugal compressor for adjusting the air flow rate through said engine; and

    changing the orientation of said guide vane while keeping the speed of rotation of said engine at a high level near its rated value to control the output of said engine by controlling the air flow rate through said engine.
