1. A vehicular hydraulic fluid supply arrangement comprising:
- variable displacement pump means;
a lateral acceleration sensor;
a vehicle speed sensor;
means for estimating the amount of hydraulic fluid which is required to be supplied to a predetermined servo arrangement;
means responsive to said vehicle speed sensor and said lateral acceleration sensor for correcting the hydraulic fluid amount estimate; and
means responsive to the corrected hydraulic fluid amount estimate for controlling the amount of hydraulic fluid discharged from said variable displacement pump means.

Abstract
In order to reduce the pump load on a prime mover and improve fuel consumption characteristics, the mode in which a variable displacement pump is operated is varied in accordance with a consumption estimate which is modified using engine speed and lateral acceleration data inputs. A basic consumption estimate is derived based on sensor inputs which are indicative of the amount of work a servo is producing and increased by increasing the level based on the lateral acceleration level. The amount by which the basic estimate is boosted is variable with vehicle speed and/or lateral acceleration level.
