1. A process for producing a titanium carbide whisker, comprising the steps of:
- mixing 100 parts by weight of a titanium source comprising titanium dioxide and/or an alkali metal titanate with 50 to 22 parts by weight of a carbon source, 1 to 30 parts by weight of a transition metal chloride, and 10 to 100 parts by weight of an alkali metal chloride to produce a mixture; and
heating the mixture at 1300°
to 1700°
C. in an inert gas atmosphere to produce a reaction product.
