1. The method of determining the thickness of a magnetic pipe comprising the steps of:

  • inserting into said pipe a wound coil which has its radius aligned with the radius of said pipe and said coil being closely magnetically coupled to said pipe;

    applying a voltage to said coil at an initial time;

    monitoring the current through the coil caused by said voltage;

    measuring the time from the initial application of said voltage that it takes for the current to reach a value at which the pipe is substantially magnetically saturated; and

    determining the thickness of said pipe from the measured time.
