Abstract
A system for detecting the position of an object within a body of biological tissue includes a resonant circuit attached to the object and a probe including a receiver/transmitter that operates at the resonant frequency of the object. The resonant circuit rings in response to pulses transmitted from the probe thereby activating receiver circuits which control a visual display indicating the direction the probe should be moved to center it over the object. When the object is centered a second visual display provides confirmation.

1. A device for insertion into the body of a mammal comprising a tube having a plurality of resonant circuit targets incorporated in the tube, said resonant circuit targets being spaced apart from one another, and each resonant circuit target having a different resonant frequency.
- 2. A device for insertion into the body of a mammal comprising a tubular member having first and second ends, said tubular member having a lumen disposed therein which extends the entire length thereof, at least one feeding port extending through a wall of the tubular member near said first end and communicating with said lumen, an auxiliary tubular member having a lumen and attachment means for attaching said auxiliary tubular member to said first end such that said lumen of the auxiliary tubular member does not communicate with the lumen of the tubular member, a pair of resonant circuit targets disposed within the lumen of said auxiliary tubular member such that the resonant circuit targets are spaced apart from one another, each of said resonant circuit targets having a different resonant frequency, a bolus plug affixed to said auxiliary tubular member at an end thereof which is distal from said tubular member to retain the resonant circuit targets within said auxiliary tubular member.

3. A device for insertion into the body of a mammal comprising a tubular member having first and second ends, said tubular member having a lumen disposed therein which extends the entire length thereof, an auxiliary tubular member and attachment means for attaching said auxiliary tubular member to said first end such that a lumen of the auxiliary tubular member does not communicate with the lumen of the tubular member, said means for attachment having at least one feeding port extending therethrough and communicating with said lumen in said tubular member, a pair of resonant circuit targets disposed within the lumen of said auxiliary tubular member such that the resonant circuit targets are spaced apart from one another, each of said resonant circuit targets having a different resonant frequency, a bolus plus affixed to said auxiliary tubular member at an end thereof which is distal from said tubular member to retain the resonant circuit targets within said auxiliary tubular member.

6. A device for insertion into the body of a mammal comprising a tubular member having first and second ends, said tubular member having a lumen disposed therein which extends the entire length thereof, a bolus attached to said first end of the tubular member and having a feeding port extending therethrough which communicates with the lumen in the tubular member, a pair of spaced-apart resonant circuit targets attached to said tubular member near the first end thereof, each of the resonant circuit targets having a different resonant frequency.

7. A device for insertion into the body of a mammal comprising a tubular member having a plurality of resonant circuit targets attached to an exterior surface thereof, said resonant circuit targets being spaced apart from one another, and each resonant circuit target having a different resonant frequency.

8. A device for insertion into the body of a mammal comprising a tubular member having first and second ends, said tubular member having a lumen disposed therein which extends the entire length thereof, a bolus attached to said first end of the tubular member and having a feeding port extending therethrough which communicates with the lumen in the tubular member, a pair of spaced apart resonant circuit targets being attached to an exterior surface of said bolus, each of said resonant circuit targets having a different resonant frequency.
