A metal wood golf clubhead comprising a thin-walled metal body having a sole including a soleplate, a front face, a top wall which extends rearwardly from the face, and a side wall which extends between the top wall and the sole, the soleplate having a cavity formed therein, the cavity being formed by a side wall which extends upwardly from the soleplate and a top wall, the soleplate, side wall of the cavity, and top wall of the cavity being investment cast in a single piece of metal, and an insert of dampening material positioned in the cavity.
