1. A connector for coupling an end of a light-transmitting conduit, comprising:

  • a pivotable socket for mounting adjacent an opening through which light from a light source passes and having a passage therethrough formed to allow an end of a light-transmitting conduit to be coupled to the socket, anda shutter piece extending from the socket so as substantially to block light passing through the opening from entering the passage when the socket is in a first position, and substantially to expose the opening to allow light passing through the opening to enter the passage and pass into the conduit when the socket is in a second position.
