1. An electronically actuated shutter device in which the movement and position of one or more shutter blades is monitored to accurately control aperture size and exposure time of the shutter blades, said device characterized by:

  • a light source;

    a gradient neutral density strip positioned in a manner that the movement of the shutter blades will cause said strip to move so as to vary the amount of light transmitted through said strip by said source;

    a detector which monitors the amount of light transmitted through said strip by said source to produce a signal that represents aperture size of the shutter blades; and

    means coupled to the electronically actuated shutter device for controlling position of the shutter blades so that the changes in position of said strip will be proportional to aperture size of the shutter blades,whereby, the shutter blades may form a plurality of aperture sizes with a plurality of exposure times.
