1. A dosage form for the administration of a drug to a patient, the dosage form comprising:

  • (a) a first composition comprising 10 ng to 750 mg of drug;

    (b) a second composition for pushing the first composition from the dosage form;

    (c) a wall surrounding the first and second compositions, said wall comprising at least in part a composition permeable to the passage of fluid; and

    ,(d) at least one exit means in the wall for delivering the drug from the dosage form to the patient; and

    wherein said,(e) first composition comprises a carboxymethylcellulose comprising a 10,000 to 300,000 molecular weight; and

    said,(f) second composition comprising a carboxymethylcellulose comprising a molecular weight greater than 300,000 to 1,200,000; and

    wherein said(g) first and second compositions, when the dosage form is in operation, cooperate to deliver substantially all the drug in the dosage form to the patient over time.
