1. An object detector having a defined threshold detection distance associated therewith for detecting the presence of a motor vehicle, said motor vehicle reflecting a beam of radiation therefrom and being remotely located a distance from said object detector, said object detector comprising:

  • (a) detecting means for receiving said beam of radiation from said motor vehicle and for generating a detecting signal in response thereto; and

    (b) suppressing means coupled to said detecting means for suppressing said detecting signal if an object is located within a predetermined distance being less than said defined threshold detection distance from said object detector.
