1. A device for protecting an electrical contact and wire connection, comprising:

  • (1) a gel formed prior to making the connection between the electrical contact and wire, said gel having an elastic modulus of less than 106 dynes/cm2, an ultimate elongation of at least 200%, and is capable of undergoing elastic deformation around the electrical contact and wire;

    (2) a container for the gel; and

    (3) a force member adapted to cooperate with and act on said container to move the container and gel from a first position to a second position whereby upon connection of the electrical contact and wire said gel within the container is elastically deformed and maintained in direct engagement with said electrical contact and wire so that said electrical contact and wire connection is environmentally sealed.
