1. An apparatus for maintaining live probiotic bacteria at an animal feedlot in a ready-to-administer condition for administration as a feed additive for animals at the feedlot, the apparatus comprising:

  • (a) liquid holding means for containing an amount of a suspension of live probiotic bacteria in a carrier liquid;

    (b) cooling means associated with said liquid holding means for cooling the suspension in said liquid holding means;

    (c) agitation means for agitating the suspension in said liquid holding means to achieve and maintain uniformity of the suspension in said liquid holding means;

    (d) delivery means for delivering at least a portion of the suspension from said liquid holding means on demand;

    (e) measurement means for determining an amount of the suspension contained in said liquid holding means; and

    (f) control means operable tooperate said agitation means when probiotic bacteria are added to the carrier liquid in said liquid holding means so as to achieve uniformity of the suspension in said liquid holding means;

    operate said agitation means to maintain uniformity of the suspension in said liquid holding means; and

    operate said cooling means in response to changing temperatures of the suspension in said liquid holding means so as to maintain a temperature of the suspension in said liquid holding means within a predetermined temperature range such that a predetermined concentration of probiotic bacteria is maintained in the suspension in said liquid holding means without substantial propagation of the bacteria and without substantial loss of viability of the bacteria.
