1. A failure-detecting device for a pressure sensor for an internal combustion engine having a fuel tank, an intake system, and an evaporative emission control system for controlling purging of evaporative fuel generated in said fuel tank into said intake system, said pressure sensor being provided in said evaporative emission control system for detecting pressure within said evaporative emission control system, comprising:

  • output variation-detecting means for detecting an amount of variation in an output from said pressure sensor occurring within a predetermined time period after the start of said engine; and

determining means for determining that said pressure sensor is abnormal when said amount of variation is below a predetermined value upon the lapse of said predetermined time period.
