Gate valve
First Claim
1. A gate valve, comprising:
- a valve body having a flow bore extending therethrough, a gate chamber traversing the flow bore, and a seat surface;
a gate disposed in the gate chamber for reciprocating movement across the flow bore to control flow through the flow bore, the gate having a closure area, a flow opening extending through the gate, and a recess circumscribing the flow opening and the closure area, the recess having a material disposed therein and case hardened to form a sealing surface about the flow opening and the closure area having a hardness of greater than about 50 Rockwell, the sealing surface being engagable against the seat surface to provide a substantially fluid tight seal when the gate is in an open position, wherein the flow opening of the gate is aligned with the flow bore, and a closed position, wherein the closure area of the gate is aligned with the flow bore; and
actuating means connected to the gate for reciprocally moving the gate across the flow bore between the open position and the closed position.

Abstract
A gate valve comprising a valve body, a gate, a bonnet assembly and an actuator assembly. The gate having a closure area, a flow opening extending through the gate, and a recess circumscribing the flow opening and the closure area having a material disposed therein and case hardened to form a wear resistant sealing surface about the flow opening and the closure area having a hardness greater than about 50 Rockwell. The gate being press fitted between a pair of seat rings such that the sealing surface remains in sealing engagement against the seat rings to provide a substantially fluid tight seal when the gate is in an open and closed position. The actuating assembly is connected to the gate for reciprocally moving the gate across the flow bore between the open position and the closed position.

15. A gate valve, comprising:

a valve body having a flow bore extending therethrough and a gate chamber traversing the flow bore; a pair of seat rings oppositely disposed in the gate chamber about the flow bore, each seat ring having a seat surface; a gate disposed in the gate chamber between the seat rings for reciprocating movement across the flow bore to control flow through the flow bore, the gate having a first side, a second side, a closure area, a flow opening extending through the gate, and a pair of recesses wherein one of the recesses circumscribes the flow opening and the closure area on the first side of the gate and wherein the other recess circumscribes the flow opening and the closure area on the second side of the gate, the recesses having a material disposed therein and case hardened to form a first sealing surface on the first side of the gate and a second sealing surface on the second side of the gate wherein each sealing surface has a hardness of greater than about 50 Rockwell, the sealing surfaces being engagable against a corresponding one of the seat surfaces to provide a substantially fluid tight seal when the gate is in an open position, wherein the flow opening of the gate is aligned with the flow bore, and a closed position, wherein the closure area of the gate is aligned with the flow bore; and actuating means connected to the gate for reciprocally moving the gate across the flow bore between the open position and the closed position. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28)
