Implantable prosthetic device
First Claim
1. In an implantable prosthetic device for use in the human body, the implantable prosthetic device including a fluid filled region, the improvement comprising:
- a pressure adaptive element disposed within the prosthetic device adjacent said fluid filled region which is capable of automatically changing volume under pressure after implanting in the body, andmeans for communicating body fluids to and from the pressure adaptive element, to external to the implantable prosthetic device, in response to the pressure adaptive element'"'"'s changing volume, which implant includes at least one permanent perforation to permit communication of body fluid between the prosthetic device and the human body.

Abstract
An implant and coverings for an implant for use in the human body are disclosed. In accord with one aspect of this invention, one or more compressive structures are used within the implant to permit automatic change in volume of the overall implant. In the preferred embodiment, the implant includes both an enclosed fluid or gel filled region, and a compressive structure of biocompatible foam. The foam is preferably contained within a covering have perforations which permit communication of body fluids to and from the body and implant as the volume of the compressive structure changes.
