1. A diffuse infrared communication method used in a room of indeterminate size, for communication between a plurality of nodes, the method comprising the steps of:

  • a. each node determining if there is at least one repeater present in the room;

    b. if there is not at least one repeater present in the room, then each node configuring itself to send and receive communications directly with other nodes present in the room; and

    c. if there is at least one repeater present in the room, then each node configuring itself to send and receive communications with other nodes only through one or more repeaters.
