Abstract

Colored illumination control systems implemented with illumination amplifiers, such as liquid crystal devices, are provided. Heat transfer devices remove heat, such as heat caused by the high intensity illumination, from the illumination amplifier. The colored illumination amplifiers can be implemented in either transmissive or reflective modes. In a reflective mode, illumination can be reflected from a front side and heat can be removed from a back side of the illumination amplifier. Color is provided, such as generating multiple channels of different color images and projecting the different color images to generate a multicolored image.

Claims

1. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

a multicolored illumination source generating multicolored source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a reflective liquid crystal illumination controller having a reflector, coupled to the multicolored illumination source and to the electrical controller, and generating multicolored reflected illumination in response to the multicolored source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals, wherein the multicolored source illumination generates heat in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device coupled to the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination.

A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller has a front side and a back side, wherein the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a reflector reflectively generating the multicolored illumination through the front side in response to the multicolored source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals, and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the back side of the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination from the back side.

A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller is a reflective liquid crystal illumination controller generating the multicolored illumination by reflecting the multicolored source illumination in response to the electrical control signals.

11. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the cooling device includes a conductive cooling device conductively removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination.

12. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the cooling device includes a forced air cooling device convectively removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination.

13. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the;

cooling device includes a thermoelectric cooling device thermoelectrically removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination.

14. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a heat conductive substrate coupled to conduct the heat generated by the multicolored source illumination in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the heat conductive substrate of the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination by cooling the heat conductive substrate.

15. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a heat conductive electrode coupled to conduct the heat generated by the multicolored source illumination in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the heat conductive electrode of the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination by cooling the heat conductive electrode.

16. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a deposited electrode coupled to conduct the heat generated by the multicolored source illumination in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the deposited electrode of the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination by cooling the deposited electrode.

2. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller having a front face and a back face, coupled to the illumination source and to the electrical controller, and generating a multicolored illumination image by controlling reflection of the source illumination through the front face of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller in response to the electrical control signals, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device coupled to the back face of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated by the source illumination in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller.

23. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 2, wherein the cooling device includes a conductive cooling device conductively removing heat generated in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination.

24. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 2, wherein the cooling device includes a forced air cooling device convectively removing heat generated in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination.

25. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 2, wherein the cooling device includes a thermoelectric cooling device thermoelectrically removing heat generated in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination.

26. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 2, wherein the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a heat conductive substrate coupled to conduct the heat generated by the source illumination in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the heat conductive substrate of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination by cooling the heat conductive substrate.

27. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 2, wherein the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a heat conductive electrode coupled to conduct the heat generated by the source illumination in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the heat conductive electrode of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination by cooling the heat conductive electrode.

28. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 2, wherein the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a deposited electrode coupled to conduct the heat generated by the source illumination in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the deposited electrode of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination by cooling the deposited electrode.

3. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a multicolored reflective liquid crystal controller having a front side and a back side, coupled to the illumination source and to the electrical controller, and generating multicolored reflected illumination in response to the source illumination by reflecting the source illumination through the front side of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal controller in response to the electrical control signals, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the reflective liquid crystal controller; and

a thermal conductor mounted on the back side of the reflective liquid crystal controller and conductively removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal controller by the source illumination.

33. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 3, wherein the illumination source is a multicolored illumination source generating multicolored source illumination.

34. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 3, wherein the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a plurality of multicolored segments generating the multicolored illumination in response to the source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals.

35. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 3, wherein the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a plurality of multicolored segments having different colored segments interspersed together and generating the multicolored illumination in response to the source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals.

36. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 3, wherein the cooling device includes a conductive cooling device conductively removing heat generated in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination.

37. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 3, wherein the cooling device includes a forced air cooling device convectively removing heat generated in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination.

38. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 3, wherein the cooling device includes a thermoelectric cooling device thermoelectrically removing heat generated in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination.

39. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 3, wherein the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a heat conductive substrate coupled to conduct the heat generated by the source illumination in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the heat conductive substrate of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination by cooling the heat conductive substrate.

40. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 3, wherein the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a heat conductive electrode coupled to conduct the heat generated by the source illumination in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the heat conductive electrode of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination by cooling the heat conductive electrode.

41. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 3, wherein the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a deposited electrode coupled to conduct the heat generated by the source illumination in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the deposited electrode of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination by cooling the deposited electrode.

4. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a reflective colored liquid crystal controller having a front side and a back side, coupled to the illumination source and to the electrical controller, and generating reflected multicolored illumination in response to the source illumination by reflecting the source illumination through the front side of the reflective colored liquid crystal controller in response to the electrical control signals, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the reflective liquid crystal controller;

a thermal conductor mounted on the back side of the reflective liquid crystal controller and conductively removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal controller by the source illumination; and

a projector coupled to the reflective colored liquid crystal controller and generating a projected multicolored image in response to the reflected multicolored illumination.

46. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 4, wherein the illumination source is a multicolored illumination source generating multicolored source illumination.

47. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 4, wherein the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller includes a plurality of multicolored segments generating the multicolored illumination in response to the source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals.

48. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 4, wherein the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller includes a plurality of multicolored segments having different colored segments interspersed together and generating the multicolored illumination in response to the source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals.

49. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 4, wherein the cooling device includes a conductive cooling device conductively removing heat generated in the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination.

50. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 4, wherein the cooling device includes a forced air cooling device convectively removing heat generated in the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination.

51. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 4, wherein the cooling device includes a thermoelectric cooling device thermoelectrically removing heat generated in the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination.

52. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 4, wherein the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller includes a heat conductive substrate coupled to conduct the heat generated by the source illumination in the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the heat conductive substrate of the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination by cooling the heat conductive substrate.

53. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 4, wherein the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller includes a heat conductive electrode coupled to conduct the heat generated by the source illumination in the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the heat conductive electrode of the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination by cooling the heat conductive electrode.

54. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 4, wherein the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller includes a deposited electrode coupled to conduct the heat generated by the source illumination in the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the deposited electrode of the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination by cooling the deposited electrode.

5. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

a multicolored illumination source generating multicolored source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a reflective liquid crystal illumination controller coupled to the multicolored illumination source and to the electrical controller and generating reflected multicolored illumination in response to the multicolored source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals, wherein the multicolored source illumination generates heat in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device coupled to the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination.

59. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 5, wherein the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller has a front side and a back side, wherein the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a reflector reflectively generating the multicolored illumination through the front side in response to the multicolored source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals, and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the back side of the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination from the back side.

60. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 5, wherein the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a plurality of multicolored segments generating the multicolored illumination in response to the multicolored source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals.

61. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 5, wherein the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a plurality of multicolored segments having different colored segments interspersed together and generating the multicolored illumination in response to the multicolored source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals.

62. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 5, wherein the cooling device includes a conductive cooling device conductively removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination.

63. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 5, wherein the cooling device includes a forced air cooling device convectively removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination.

64. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 5, wherein the cooling device includes a thermoelectric cooling device thermoelectrically removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination.

65. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 5, wherein the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a heat conductive substrate coupled to conduct the heat generated by the multicolored source illumination in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the heat conductive substrate of the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination by cooling the heat conductive substrate.

66. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 5, wherein the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a heat conductive electrode coupled to conduct the heat generated by the multicolored source illumination in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the heat conductive electrode of the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination by cooling the heat conductive electrode.

67. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 5, wherein the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a deposited electrode coupled to conduct the heat generated by the multicolored source illumination in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the deposited electrode of the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination by cooling the deposited electrode.

69. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 5, wherein the electrical controller includes a plurality of capacitors coupled to store the electrical control signals, wherein the liquid crystal illumination controller is coupled to generate the multicolored illumination in response to the multicolored source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals stored by the plurality of capacitors.

70. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 5, wherein the electrical controller includes a plurality of capacitors coupled to store the electrical control signals, wherein the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller includes a plurality of segments and generates the multicolored illumination in response to the multicolored source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals stored by the plurality of capacitors.

6. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

a multicolored illumination source generating multicolored source illumination;

a duty cycle modulation circuit generating duty cycle modulated electrical control signals;

a liquid crystal illumination controller coupled to the multicolored illumination source and to the duty cycle modulation circuit and generating multicolored illumination in response to the multicolored source illumination and in response to the duty cycle modulated electrical control signals, wherein the multicolored source illumination generates heat in the liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device coupled to the liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination.

9. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

a multicolored illumination source generating multicolored source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a reflective liquid crystal illumination controller having a plurality of multicolored segments, coupled to the multicolored illumination source and to the electrical controller, and generating multicolored reflected illumination in response to the multicolored source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals, wherein the multicolored source illumination generates heat in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device having good thermal coupling to the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination.

10. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a reflective liquid crystal illumination controller having a plurality of multicolored segments interspersed together, coupled to the illumination source and to the electrical controller, and generating reflected illumination in response to the source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device having good thermal coupling to the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination.

17. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

a multicolored illumination source generating multicolored source illumination;

a pulse width modulation circuit generating pulse width modulated electrical control signals;

a reflective liquid crystal illumination controller having a reflector, coupled to the multicolored illumination source and to the pulse width modulation circuit, and generating multicolored reflected illumination in response to the multicolored source illumination and in response to the pulse width modulated electrical control signals, wherein the multicolored source illumination generates heat in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device coupled to the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination.

18. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

a multicolored illumination source generating multicolored source illumination;

a pulse modulation circuit generating pulse modulated electrical control signals;

a liquid crystal illumination controller, coupled to the multicolored illumination source and to the pulse modulation circuit, and generating multicolored illumination in response to the multicolored source illumination and in response to the pulse modulated electrical control signals, wherein the multicolored source illumination generates heat in the liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device coupled to the liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination.

19. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

a multicolored illumination source generating multicolored source illumination;

an electrical controller generating a plurality of electrical control signals;

a plurality of capacitors coupled to the electrical controller and storing the electrical control signals;

a liquid crystal illumination controller coupled to the multicolored illumination source and to the plurality of capacitors and generating multicolored controlled illumination in response to the multicolored source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals stored by the plurality of capacitors, wherein the multicolored source illumination generates heat in the liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device having good thermal coupling to the liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination.

20. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

a multicolored illumination source generating multicolored source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a plurality of capacitors coupled to the electrical controller and storing the electrical control signals;

a liquid crystal illumination controller having a plurality of segments, coupled to the illumination source and to the plurality of capacitors and generating multicolored controlled illumination in response to the multicolored source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals stored by the plurality of capacitors, wherein the multicolored source illumination generates heat in the liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device coupled to the liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the liquid crystal illumination controller by the multicolored source illumination.

21. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller having a plurality of multicolored segments, having a front face and a back face, coupled to the illumination source and to the electrical controller, and generating multicolored illumination in response to the source illumination by controlling reflection of the source illumination through the front face of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and in response to the electrical control signals, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device coupled to the back face of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated by the source illumination in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller.

22. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller having a plurality of multicolored segments interspersed together, having a front face and a back facet coupled to the illumination source and to the electrical controller and generating multicolored illumination in response to the source illumination by controlling reflection of the source illumination through the front face of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and in response to the electrical control signals, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device coupled to the back face of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated by the source illumination in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller.

29. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

a pulse width modulation circuit generating pulse width modulated electrical control signals;

a multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller having a front face and a back face, coupled to the illumination source and to the pulse width modulation circuit and generating a multicolored illumination image by controlling reflection of the source illumination through the front face of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller in response to the pulse width modulated electrical control signals, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device coupled to the back face of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated by the source illumination in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller.

30. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

a duty cycle modulation circuit generating duty cycle modulated electrical control signals;

a multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller having a front face and a back face, coupled to the illumination source and to the duty cycle modulation circuit, and generating a multicolored illumination image by controlling reflection of the source illumination through the front face of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller in response to the duty cycle modulated electrical control signals, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device coupled to the back face of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated by the source illumination in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller.

31. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a plurality of capacitors coupled to the electrical controller and storing the electrical control signals;

a multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller having a front face and a back face, coupled to the illumination source and to the plurality of capacitors, and generating a multicolored illumination image by controlling reflection of the source illumination through the front face of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller in response to the electrical control signals stored by the plurality of capacitors, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device coupled to the back face of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated by the source illumination in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller.

32. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a plurality of capacitors coupled to the electrical controller and storing the electrical control signals;

a multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller having a plurality of segments, coupled to the illumination source and to the plurality of capacitors, and generating multicolored illumination in response to the source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals stored by the plurality of capacitors, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device coupled to the back face of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated by the source illumination in the multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller.

42. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

a pulse width modulation circuit generating pulse width modulated electrical control signals; and

a multicolored reflective liquid crystal controller having a front side and a back side, coupled to the illumination source and to the pulse width modulation circuit, and generating multicolored reflected illumination in response to the source illumination by reflecting the source illumination through the front side of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal controller in response to the pulse width modulated electrical control signals.

43. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

a duty cycle modulation circuit generating duty cycle modulated electrical control signals; and

a multicolored reflective liquid crystal controller having a front side and a back side, coupled to the illumination source and to the duty cycle modulation circuit, and generating multicolored reflected illumination in response to the source illumination by reflecting the source illumination through the front side of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal controller in response to the duty cycle modulated electrical control signals.

44. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a plurality of capacitors coupled to the electrical controller and storing the electrical control signals;

a multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller having a front side and a back side, coupled to the illumination source and to the plurality of capacitors and generating multicolored reflected illumination in response to the source illumination by reflecting the source illumination through the front side of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal controller and in response to the electrical control signals stored by the plurality of capacitors, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the reflective liquid crystal controller; and

a thermal conductor mounted on the back side of the reflective liquid crystal controller and conductively removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal controller by the source illumination.

45. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a plurality of capacitors coupled to the electrical controller and storing the electrical control signals;

a multicolored reflective liquid crystal illumination controller having a front side and a back side, having a plurality of segments, coupled to the illumination source and to the plurality of capacitors and generating multicolored reflected illumination in response to the source illumination by reflecting the source illumination through the front side of the multicolored reflective liquid crystal controller and in response to the electrical control signals stored by the plurality of capacitors, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the reflective liquid crystal controller; and

a thermal conductor mounted on the back side of the reflective liquid crystal controller and conductively removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal controller by the source illumination.

55. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

a pulse width modulation circuit generating pulse width modulated electrical control signals;

a reflective colored liquid crystal controller having a front side and a back side, coupled to the illumination source and to the pulse width modulated circuit, and generating reflected multicolored illumination in response to the source illumination by reflecting the source illumination through the front side of the reflective colored liquid crystal controller in response to the pulse width modulated electrical control signals, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the reflective liquid crystal controller;

a thermal conductor mounted on the back side of the reflective liquid crystal controller and conductively removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal controller by the source illumination; and

a projector coupled to the reflective colored liquid crystal controller and generating a projected multicolored image in response to the reflected multicolored illumination.

56. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

a duty cycle modulation circuit generating duty cycle modulated electrical control signals;

a colored liquid crystal controller coupled to the illumination source and to the duty cycle modulation circuit and generating multicolored illumination in response to the source illumination and in response to the duty cycle modulated electrical control signals, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the liquid crystal controller;

a thermal conductor mounted on the back side of the liquid crystal controller and conductively removing heat generated in the liquid crystal controller by the source illumination; and

a projector coupled to the reflective colored liquid crystal controller and generating a projected multicolored image in response to the reflected multicolored illumination.

57. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising

an illumination source generating source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a plurality of capacitors coupled to the electrical controller and storing the electrical control signals;

a reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller having a front side and a back side, coupled to the illumination source and to the plurality of capacitors and generating reflected multicolored illumination in response to the source illumination by reflecting the source illumination through the front side of the reflective colored liquid crystal controller and in response to the electrical control signals stored by the plurality of capacitors, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the reflective liquid crystal controller;

a thermal conductor mounted on the back side of the reflective liquid crystal controller and conductively removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal controller by the source illumination; and

a projector coupled to the reflective colored liquid crystal controller and generating a projected multicolored image in response to the reflected multicolored illumination.

58. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising

an illumination source generating source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a plurality of capacitors coupled to the electrical controller and storing the electrical control signals;

a reflective colored liquid crystal illumination controller having a front side and a back side, having a plurality of segments coupled to the illumination source and to the plurality of capacitors, and generating multicolored reflected illumination in response to the source illumination by reflecting the source illumination through the front side of the reflective colored liquid crystal controller and in response to the electrical control signals stored by the plurality of capacitors, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the reflective liquid crystal controller;

a thermal conductor mounted on the back side of the reflective liquid crystal controller and conductively removing heat generated in the reflective liquid crystal controller by the source illumination; and

a projector coupled to the reflective colored liquid crystal controller and generating a projected multicolored image in response to the reflected multicolored illumination.

68. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

a plurality of illumination sources each generating colored source illumination, wherein the colored source illumination from each of the plurality of illumination sources is different from the colored source illumination from each of the other ones of the plurality of illumination sources;

a pulse width modulation circuit generating pulse width modulated electrical control signals;

a plurality of liquid crystal illumination controllers each coupled to a different one of the plurality of illumination sources, each liquid crystal illumination controller coupled to the pulse width modulation circuit and generating a colored illumination image in response to the colored source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals, wherein the colored source illumination generates heat in the liquid crystal illumination controllers; and

a cooling device coupled to the plurality of liquid crystal illumination controllers and removing heat generated in the liquid crystal illumination controllers by the colored source illumination.

71. A liquid crystal illumination control system comprising:

an illumination source generating source illumination;

an electrical controller generating electrical control signals;

a multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller coupled to the illumination source and to the electrical controller and generating multicolored illumination in response to the source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals, wherein the source illumination generates heat in the multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller; and

a cooling device coupled to the liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination.

72. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 71, wherein the multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller has a front side and a back side, wherein the multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller includes a reflector reflectively generating the multicolored illumination through the front side in response to the source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals, and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the back side of the multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination from the back side.

73. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 71, wherein the multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller is a reflective multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller generating the multicolored illumination by reflecting the source illumination in response to the electrical control signals.

74. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 71, wherein the illumination source is a multicolored illumination source generating multicolored source illumination.

75. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 71, wherein the multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller includes a plurality of multicolored segments generating the multicolored illumination in response to the source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals.

76. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 71, wherein the multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller includes a plurality of multicolored segments having different colored segments interspersed together and generating the multicolored illumination in response to the source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals.

77. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 71, wherein the cooling device includes a conductive cooling device conductively removing heat generated in the liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination.

78. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 71, wherein the cooling device includes a forced air cooling device convectively removing heat generated in the liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination.

79. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 71, wherein the cooling device includes a thermoelectric cooling device thermoelectrically removing heat generated in the liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination.

80. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 71, wherein the multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller includes a heat conductive substrate coupled to conduct the heat generated by the source illumination in the liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the heat conductive substrate of the liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination by cooling the heat conductive substrate.

81. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 71, wherein the multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller includes a heat conductive electrode coupled to conduct the heat generated by the source illumination in the liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the heat conductive electrode of the liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination by cooling the heat conductive electrode.

82. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 71, wherein the multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller includes a deposited electrode coupled to conduct the heat generated by the source illumination in the liquid crystal illumination controller and wherein the cooling device is coupled to the deposited electrode of the liquid crystal illumination controller and removing heat generated in the liquid crystal illumination controller by the source illumination by cooling the deposited electrode.

83. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 71, wherein the electrical controller includes a pulse width modulation circuit generating the electrical control signals as pulse width modulated electrical control signals.

84. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 71, wherein the electrical controller includes a pulse rate modulation circuit generating the electrical control signals as pulse rate modulated electrical control signals.

85. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 71, wherein the electrical controller includes a plurality of capacitors coupled to store the electrical control signals, wherein the multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller is coupled to generate the multicolored illumination in response to the source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals stored by the plurality of capacitors.

86. A liquid crystal illumination control system as set forth in claim 71, wherein the electrical controller includes a plurality of capacitors coupled to store the electrical control signals, wherein the multicolored liquid crystal illumination controller includes a plurality of segments and generates the multicolored illumination in response to the source illumination and in response to the electrical control signals stored by the plurality of capacitors.
