1. A drive control system for controlling a series hybrid vehicle having an engine, a generator, a battery, and a motor, wherein an output of said engine activates said generator so as to generate an output voltage according to a field current, an output voltage of said generator charges said battery, and wherein the output voltage from said generator and/or the voltage supplied from said battery activates said motor, said drive control system comprising:

  • means for selecting a mode to activate said motor solely by said battery, a mode to activate said motor solely by said generator, or a mode to activate said motor by said generator and said battery according to a required motor output;

    means for determining an output voltage for said generator according to the selected motor activating mode so as to obtain the required motor output; and

    means for controlling a field current of said generator so as to obtain the determined output voltage, thereby selecting a motor activating mode in which the motor operates.
