1. In a latch mechanism for use with a vehicle having a body with an exterior surface capable of accommodating an accessory unit, the accessory unit having at least two first mounting assemblies, the combination comprising:
- (a) at least two second mounting assemblies adapted to engage the at least two first mounting assemblies;
(b) attachment means for attaching the at least two second mounting assemblies to the body of the vehicle substantially flush with the exterior surface of the vehicle body; and
(c) securement means carried by the at least two second mounting assemblies for cooperatively mating with the at least two first mounting assemblies so as to removably secure the at least two first mounting assemblies to the at least two second mounting assemblies and permit the accessory unit to be easily mounted to the vehicle for use and easily removed therefrom when not in use.

Abstract
A latch for removably securing one of a plurality of different accessories to an automobile is described. The latch includes a mounting structure which is permanently installed on the vehicle in a manner which assures that the static and dynamic loading expected by reason of the differing accessories are supported by the vehicle. The latch also provides electrical feed-through for accessories that might need the same, and remote and/or locking securance.
