Abstract

In a telecommunication network, a method of creating, in response to inputs from an operator of a record creation system, a general service specification for a call processing record. The call processing record includes logically related nodes and branches. In the method, a processor in the record creation system prompts the operator to identify at least one optional node, at least one required node, and at least one restricted node from a node set presented to the operator. Optional nodes are nodes which may appear in a call processing record associated with the general service specification; required nodes must appear in the call processing record associated with the general service specification; and restricted nodes cannot appear in the call processing record associated with the general service specification. After prompting the operator for the selected nodes, the processor receives the operator'"'"'s selections and enables the optional, required, and restricted nodes as a general service specification from which processing records can then be created.

Claims

1. A method of creating, in response to inputs from an operator of a record creation system in a telecommunication network, a general service specification for a call processing record containing logically related nodes and branches, the method comprising the steps, executed by a processor in the record creation system, of:

prompting the operator to identify at least one optional node which may appear in a call processing record associated with the general service specification;

receiving from the operator an identification of at least one optional node which may appear in the call processing record associated with the general service specification;

prompting the operator to identify at least one required node which must appear in the call processing record associated with the general service specification;

receiving from the operator an identification of at least one required node, which must appear in call processing records associated with the general service specification; and

enabling said at least one optional node and said at least one required node as a general service specification.

2. A method according to claim 1, further comprising the steps of:

prompting the operator to identify at least one restricted node which cannot appear in the call processing record associated with the general service specification;

receiving from the operator an identification of at least one restricted node which cannot appear in the call processing record associated with the general service specification; and

enabling at least one restricted node as part of the general service specification.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of presenting to the operator a list of available nodes from which to identify the at least one optional and required nodes.

4. The method of claim 1, comprising the steps of:

receiving from the operator a description of the general service specification which relates the general service specification to a corresponding service.

5. A method according to claim 1, wherein the step of enabling the general service specification includes the step of flagging the general service specification as record containing logically if more than one call processing record is associated with the general service specification.

6. A method of creating, in response to inputs from an operator of a record creation system, a call processing record for execution in a telephone service execution environment, comprising the steps, executed by a processor in the record creation system, of:

comparing each node of said call processing record against a list of optional and required nodes included in a general service specification, optional nodes being nodes which may be used in the call processing record, and required nodes being nodes which must be used in the call processing record;

indicating to the operator a failed validation procedure if said call processing record does not contain the nodes listed in the required nodes list or contains nodes not listed in either the required nodes or the optional nodes list; and

indicating to the operator a successful validation procedure if said call processing record does not contain the nodes listed in the required nodes list and does not contain nodes that are not listed in either the required nodes or the optional nodes list.

7. A method according to claim 6, further comprising the steps of:

comparing each node of said call processing record against a list of restricted nodes, restricted nodes being nodes which cannot appear in a call processing record; and

indicating to the operator a failed validation procedure if said call processing record does contain a node listed in the restricted nodes list.

8. A method according to claim 7, further comprising the step of enabling the call processing record if the validation procedure is successful.

9. A method according to claim 6, further comprising the step of enabling the call processing record if the validation procedure is successful.

10. A method of creating, in response to inputs from an operator of a record creation system in a telecommunication network, a general service specification for a call processing record containing logically related nodes and branches, the method comprising the steps, executed by a processor in the record creation system, of:

prompting the operator to select optional nodes, required nodes, and restricted nodes;

optional nodes being nodes which may appear in a call processing record associated with the general service specification, required nodes being nodes which must appear in a call processing record associated with the general service specification, and restricted nodes being nodes which cannot appear in a call processing record associated with the general service specification;

receiving from the operator a selection of zero or more optional nodes;

receiving from the operator a selection of zero or more required nodes;

receiving from the operator a selection of zero or more restricted nodes;

enabling the selected optional, required, and restricted nodes as a general service specification.
