1. In a continuous web printing press having a plurality of webs, a method of controlling the relative location of page cuts of all the plurality of webs to form multiple pages having substantially equal page lengths, comprising the steps of:

  • placing reference marks on all of the plurality of webs;

    detecting the reference marks independently of visible light from the reference marks; and

    controlling the relative position of page cuts of all of the plurality of webs in accordance with the light independent detecting of the reference marks on at least one of the plurality of webs through another one of the plurality of webs.
